Rides for Care Homes

We work closely with care homes across Bury St Edmunds, offering residents the chance to enjoy fresh air, conversation, and gentle exploration of the town.

Our rides often become a weekly highlight — a change of scenery, a familiar face to chat with, and the simple joy of getting outdoors.

How it works

  • Most homes book two rickshaws for 1 to 1.5 hours, weekly or fortnightly.
  • We have a wheelchair-accessible rickshaw available.
  • Care teams usually choose which residents will ride each session.
  • A carer normally accompanies the ride.
  • If not available, our volunteers — known as Chatty Chums — are happy to join.

Please note

We always require an accompanying passenger for each ride.

This ensures everyone’s safety and makes the experience more enjoyable — it’s always nicer when there’s someone to share the journey and the conversation with.

Rides for individuals, family & friends

If you know someone who would benefit from getting out and enjoying the fresh air — whether due to limited mobility, social isolation, illness, age or simply circumstance — our rides offer a gentle, uplifting way to reconnect.

Don’t have someone to accompany?

No problem — our Chatty Chums volunteers are always happy to come along. We find rides are even more enjoyable when there’s someone to share the experience with.
