A caring community powered by volunteers
Join our amazing team of volunteers and help bring smiles, connection, and freedom to people across Bury St Edmunds.
There are lots of ways to get involved — whether you love chatting, cycling, fixing things, or organising behind the scenes.
Admin Support Team
Our small team of volunteer administrators help run the service from our virtual control room.
Each member usually volunteers one day a week, helping to coordinate both joy rides and food deliveries, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely.
If you:
- Have good communication skills
- Are confident using simple spreadsheets
- Enjoy chatting with people
…then this could be the perfect role for you!
Full training and support are provided — you just need access to a computer or laptop.
Volunteer Riders
Our riders take passengers — two at a time — on short, uplifting rides around town.
Rides are pre-booked, and you’ll be given all the details in advance, including passenger information and pick-up points.
The goal? To help people get out of their four walls, feel the wind in their hair, and reconnect with the community.
Our rickshaws are power-assisted, so you don’t need to be a super-fit cyclist.
You’ll receive full training and ongoing support.
Chatty Chums
Not keen on pedalling? You can still ride along!
Our Chatty Chums join solo passengers on the rickshaw to offer friendly conversation and companionship during their journey.
It’s amazing how much brighter a ride feels when there’s someone to share it with.
Full training and support provided.
Rapid Repair Team
Even with regular professional servicing, our rickshaws occasionally need quick fixes — a puncture, a loose chain, a small electrical hiccup.
That’s where our Rapid Repair Team comes in.
We’ll give you:
- A full day of training in basic bike repair and maintenance
- Your own tool kit to use
- A flexible half-day on-call shift each week to respond when small issues arise
If you’re practical, handy, and want to help keep our bikes on the road, we’d love your help!
